Probably pretty cliché and basic for an American to say Paris.
Maybe I’ll change my mind once I visit all the other inspiring places across the world.
But it’s my favorite city, so kiss muh butt! Respectfully.
I’m sure the last thing Paris needs is another American indulging in the escapades of Ernest Hemingway and Henry Miller, or the retreat of people like James Baldwin. Still, it is a city that so deeply captures my spirit and soul.
I’m not that well-traveled, so—forgive me —but Paris was a city I could wander around in for hours, eat some snails, catch a classic at a revival house, and wander through outdoor cafe patios for hours, chiefing a heater and having some existential musing as Paris lives and breathes right in front of you.
I’m a wanderer, and I’m drawn to places that offer plenty of stimulating and inspiring elements. For me, Paris fits all those aspects, and I dream of one day turning my art into some commercial stability where I can do whatever the fuck I want in the places I want to be, meeting new and exciting creatives who share that same kind of lust and chutzpah. Paris seems like a good spot for that.
Also, wouldn’t it be cool actually to know French? And not have locals start talking English because your francaise is ass?
Paris, you’ll always be on my mind and in my heart. I’ll be dreaming of you and when we meet again. Get those snails ready, baby!
